Acclaimed illustrator Annie West has always been fascinated by horrible accidents, hilarious incidents, unsolvable mysteries and amusing deaths. From Icarus to Strongbow, Attila the Hun to Sartre, Another Fine Mess assembles a fine cast of those who met untimely (and entertaining) ends. With her inimitable style and incorrigible sense of humour, Annie West has produced another beautiful and enjoyable work.

About the Author Annie West is an award-winning illustrator and cartoonist. Reared on Ronald Searle, Saul Steinberg and Spike Milligan, Annie graduated from Dun Laoghaire School of Art (IADT) with a degree in TV Production Design. There followed a decade working in the art department on movies, TV and music videos for RTÉ, Channel Four, Robert Plant, and the Hothouse Flowers to name but a few. She edited and illustrated Yeats in Love, an illustrated, semi-fictional account of WB Yeats’ obsessive yet ultimately fruitless pursuit of Maud Gonne (New Island, 2014) and What If? A Chronicle of What Might Have Been (New Island, 2016).

Annie West is one of very few people capable of making mirth from mortality and Another Fine Mess is a brilliant exploration of the funny side of doom. We meet the daft, the reckless and the just plain unlucky in a hilarious chronicle of creative croaks that will leave you asking, when your number finally comes up and it’s time to hand in your pail, ‘O Death, where is thy ba-ZING?
— Charlie Connelly, author and award-winning broadcaster
Great art and great wit! Can there be a better combination? Once again Annie West brings us page after page of her inimitable draughtsmanship, bright colours and profusion of instructive detail. This time, her mordant humour turns to the theme of death and near-death experience. The amusing side of death has never been so near!
— William C. Campbell, Nobel Prize-winner
